Reality

The continually evolving totality of interacting structures and their consequences.

Reality is the whole within which every structure exists, interacts and changes.

It includes what is observed and what is not yet understood. Human beings do not stand outside it. Our bodies, beliefs, institutions, technologies and models are themselves structures within the same Reality they attempt to describe.

Reality is not determined by preference, language or consensus. A description can correspond closely to what is or fail against it, but agreement does not decide the structure of Reality itself.

Reality is also not static. Structures interact, consequences occur, and those consequences change the conditions from which future events emerge.

Data, models and theories are representations within Reality, not Reality itself. They remain subject to correction by what actually occurs.

This is why consequence matters. It reveals whether a structure, model or expectation corresponds to the conditions it is acting within.

The practical question is simple:

What is actually here, independent of what we want or believe to be here?

That is Reality.
